As guests at Langstone Cliff Hotel, you’re at the heart of Devon, perfectly positioned to explore all the historical treasures this timeless county has to offer. Among these is the remarkable Killerton House, an impressively grand Georgian mansion brimming with countless secrets from the past.
Killerton House was built in 1778 by Sir Thomas Acland, and sited within a pleasure ground influenced by landscape gardener, John Veitch. Initially intended as a temporary dwelling while a grander mansion was completed, the planned construction never materialised, leaving Killerton as a lasting testament to the Acland dynasty.
Embellished through the years, the mansion now blends the elegance of different architectural styles. Killerton’s artifacts bear witness not only to the Acland family’s history and evolving tastes but also to broader societal changes at large.
Our hotel is approximately 30 miles away from the striking Killerton House. A scenic drive through the beautiful Devonshire countryside would take around 45 minutes to reach your destination. The journey in itself promises a delightful experience with stunning views.
The grandeur of Killerton House extends beyond its breathtaking facade. Visitors can delve into the history of the Acland family, who called the mansion home for generations. You may wander through lavishly furnished rooms displaying a plethora of historical artefacts, captivating artworks, and family memorabilia. Killerton is also famed for its extraordinary costume collection – one of the most significant in Britain. Here, each period piece holds a tale of the past. Outdoors, the expansive parkland, an enchanting garden, and two enchanting chapels invite explorers to traverse and enjoy.
The Killerton House holds its welcoming doors wide open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm from Saturday to Thursday for the house. The garden, parkland and shops maintain their activity from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm every day, allowing you to tailor your visit.
