No other hotel is as popular with birdwatching groups! Whether you refer to yourself as a birdwatcher, a birder or an ornithologist, you are welcome at Langstone Cliff. And twitchers too. Conveniently located near to the Dawlish Warren Nature reserve, stay with us and you can observe the vast population of waders and wildfowl at your leisure.
A local nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Dawlish Warren is a sand spit across the mouth of the Exe Estuary. On one side of the sand spit is a popular tourist beach and on the other intertidal mud flats. These mudflats are feeding areas for internationally important populations of many waders and wildfowl, so the site is extremely popular with bird watchers and offers a rare glimpse at these magnificent creatures. If that wasn’t enough, a purpose-built hide overlooks the main high tide roost. The Exe Estuary, including Dawlish Warren, is a wetland of international importance under the RAMSAR Convention and a Special Protection Area under the EC Birds Directive for its wintering bird populations.
If you needed a further reason to join us, there’s even a public footpath leading from the hotel grounds down to the beach and the nature reserve, so you don’t need to stray far from the hotel to see the birds!
All our bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with both bath and shower, and for those that want to venture further afield, there is plenty of parking within the hotel’s extensively wooded grounds. We have a whole host of leisure facilities onsite for when you want to take a break from your birdwatching activities. Need to relax? There is a choice of comfortable bars and lounges with spectacular views across the hotel lawns to the sea and Exe estuary, as well as a fully licensed restaurant.
If you need a packed lunch, we have got it covered. Meal times are also flexible if so needed. As the hotel is manned 24 hours a day, early/ late arrivals and departures can easily be accommodated offering you ultimate flexibility during your stay.
The Langstone Hotel is located on the south coast of Devon, right on the doorstep of Dawlish Warren Beach.
It is set within 19 acres of woodlands, lawns and gardens, so the views are remarkable wherever you are in the grounds.
