Friday 4th to Saturday 6th December 2015
With Jeremy Huggett
The Harlem 5
Band of Gold
Dart Valley Stompers
Happy jazz from happy musicians.
Just you try and stop your fingers strumming or your toes tapping!
Oh! And dancing is definitely allowed!
Jeremy (aka Jez) started his musical career at an early age when he learnt flute and piano, later adding saxes and clarinet to his repertoire. Jeremy now plays tenor, alto, soprano & baritone saxes, as well as flute, clarinet, vocals & keyboards. He also writes his own compositions.
Jeremy's early musical career saw him receive a number of awards - 1989 he was nominated by musicians from the famous "Old Duke" in Bristol for a place at Johnny Dankworth's Summer School (Wavendon). In May 1992 he was invited to guest in concert at the Colston Hall in Bristol with the US 76th Army Band and in 1993 he won the award for Best Reed Player in the UK.
Since then, Jeremy's gone from strength to strength, playing with famous names all over the country including Acker Bilk, Digby Fairweather, Cy Laurie, George Melly, Humphrey Lyttleton, Danny Moss, Pete Allen, Tommy Burton, Beryl Brydon, Enrico Tomasso, Jim Fryer, Roy Williams, Carlos Ward and the list goes on.
As well as leading his own bands and performing at many of the major jazz venues and jazz festivals both in the UK and abroad, Jeremy has also been in demand working with a number of the UK's top bands. For instance, using the name Jez Huggett, he has recently been guesting with the legendary rock group “Hawkwind” appearing at such venues as the London Astoria and The Royal Festival Hall.
For this weekend Jeremy will not only lead his three bands, he will also act as link-man/host for the entertainment throughout both days.
Jeremy has performed for us here at the Langstone on many occasions in comparatively recent years, sometimes wearing his “Dart Valley Stompers” hat, now and then as part of the “Harlem Five”, and occasionally with the swinging sounds of “Band of Gold”. But never have we had the exciting opportunity of presenting the very different sounds and jazz moods of all three bands in one weekend! It sounds just great, don’t you think? As it happens Jeremy (or Jez as he is sometimes known) is also involved with other bands including New Orleans Update, Cass Caswells’ Allsorts, New Society Jazz, Lass’s Castaways and The Roosters - may be we should book him for a fortnight rather than just the weekend!
