This will be our 17th consecutive Summer Jazz Weekend. 2017’s Summer Jazz Weekend will be hosted by the one and only Jeremy Huggett and his incredible band making it one of the most sought after summer events in Devon.  The itinerary for the popular summer event in 2017 event will be as follows…<

Friday 7th July

Evening Session in the Washington Ballroom

  • Dinner will be served between 7pm and 9pm
  • Kevin Grenfell’s Jazz Giants will be performing between 8.30pm and 11.30pm

Saturday 8th July

Lunchtime Session in the Lincoln Restaurant

  • Country buffet lunch will be available between 1pm and 2pm
  • Sinead McCabe and The Sinnermen will be performing between 12.30pm and 3pm

Evening Session in the Washington Ballroom

  • Dinner will be served between 7pm and 9pm
  • The Three Counties Jazz Band will be performing from 8.30pm and 11.30pm

Sunday 9th July

Lunchtime Session in the Lincoln Restaurant

  • Traditional Sunday lunch will be available between 12.30pm and 2pm
  • Matt Palmer’s Millennium Eagle Jazz Band will be performing between 12.30pm and 3pm

Jazz Artist profiles:

Jeremy Huggett:

Jeremy’s early musical career saw him receive a number of awards. In 1989 he was nominated by musicians from the famous ‘Old Duke’ in Bristol for a place at Johnny Dankworth’s Summer School (Wavendon). In May 1992 he was invited to guest in concert at the Colston Hall  in Bristol with the US 76th Army Band and in 1993 he won the award for the Best Reed Player in the UK.

Since then, Jeremy’s gone from strength to strength, playing with famous names all over the country including Acker Bilk, Digby Fairweather, Cy Laurie, George Melly, Humphrey Lyttleton, Danny Moss, Pete Allen, Tommy Burton, Beryl Brydon, Enrico Tomasso, Jim Gryer, Roy Williams and the list goes on.

Kevin Grenfell’s Jazz Giants:

Led by trombonist Kevin Grenfell, the Jazz Giants perform high level energy swing, boogie woogie & mainstream jazz. Formed in 2012, the Band has rapidly established a firm reputation for quality & performs at festivals, clubs & theatres throughout the UK & Europe. In 2013 they were voted best new band at the Abersoch Jazz Festival.

Sinead McCabe and the Sinnermen:

Some time ago, jazz celebrity Digby Fairweather dubbed Sinead McCabe a “Rising star”. She has since rocketed upwards, headlining at jazz festivals and events throughout the UK and has been filmed several times for television. Sinead’s unique voice and captivating personality enthral audiences with superb jazz songs recalling the days of Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald and more.

The Three Counties Jazz Band:

The Three Counties Jazz Band features  musicians from Devon, Cornwall & Somerset – Graham Trevarton on trumpet & vocals, Jeremy Huggett on saxes, clarinet & vocals, Ron Milford on trombone & vocals, John Whitlock on banjo & guitar, Tony Mann on double bass and Nick Carter on drums. Performing a mixture of traditional and New Orleans Jazz this band is guaranteed to entertain you and get your feet tapping.

Matt Palmer’s Millennium Eagle Jazz Band:

Led by Matt Palmer on clarinet & saxes, the Millennium Eagle Jazz Band is a traditional jazz band that has made its mark at jazz clubs & festivals all over the UK. They pride themselves on good musicianship and, by their own admission, are continuing the tradition of hot and entertaining jazz.
