We first started to present a Christmas programme at the hotel in 1951 – just opening for four days and closing again until Easter! It was not too many years later that we rather slow Devonshire dumplings realized that New Year's Eve was also a cause for great celebration – and we stayed open all the way through to the 3rd January! (But to be fair we were still ahead of the governments of the day – New Year's Day was not declared a bank holiday until 1974, and many years after the Scots, at that!). So now we celebrate Christmas, New Year, then some years ago the dubious word Twixtmas entered our vocabulary and in the early 1990's we brought you "The Alternatives" and what a success that has been!

On the Friday we present our Christmas Day lunch menu – at Dinner time, followed by great entertainment and on the Saturday we bring you a just - about total replica of New Year's Eve – same menu, same band, same disco, same Champagne at midnight – just about everything the same – except the price! These two evenings are the first weekend of the New Year and the bargain of the year. And January can be a bit of an anticlimactic (another new word) month can't it? Come and join us for The Alternatives – that will give you something to look forward to – especially if you have "done your bit" over the Christmas and New Year period.

There are many, many more pictures from Christmas and the New year at the Langstone Cliff Hotel available in our Gallery.
