The Langstone Cliff Hotel welcomed the first guests in the Spring of 1947, hence 2007 will be a landmark year for the hotel – our 60th anniversary of trading!

To help us celebrate we are preparing a total of four “Anniversary Weekends”. These will not be dis-similar to our now familiar Langstone Special Cabaret Weekends, but we shall try to make them just that little bit more special, in fact very like the two Loyalty Weekends we currently present each year (and indeed the Loyalty Weekends are two of the four proposed Anniversary Celebrations). Confused? – So am I – and I’m writing it!! None the less I will plough on!

We have scoured our records and tried to book some of the acts that have proved so popular since we first started to present our own regular cabaret with star names in 1978, following the building of the Washington Ballroom. Here are the acts and weekends we have selected.

Please note this is the basic outline of our plans for the 60th Anniversary celebrations.

Fuller details and possible amendments will appear in our regular ‘Specials’ brochure in due course.

We anticipate high demand for these weekends and bookings are already being taken.

60th Anniversary
Weekend No. 1
...

Fri 30th March - Sun 1st April 2007

Friday 30th March – Barry Paul’s “Tributes to Elvis”and the John Sherlock Disco
Saturday 31st March – Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen with Zodiac

Kenny and his band just had to be in the pack. Kenny was the first “name” act we presented way back on the 20th October 1978, he also helped us celebrate our 50th Anniversary on 3rd May 1997 and this will be his 25th performance here at the Langstone. As it happens it was the 30th March 1947 that the hotel welcomed the first guest – sixty years and one day ago!!

Loyalty/60th Anniversary
Weekend No. 2
...

Fri 4th May - Mon 7th May 2007

Saturday 5th May – Leah Bell’s ROCK, ROLL and REMEMBER

Sunday 6th May – Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra and Tank Sherman

Leah Bell and her troupe, another set of prolific performers who have made the 700 mile round trip from their County Durham home to entertain us regularly since 1993. Always non-stop musical action and plenty of fun.
Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra have never actually performed at one of the “Langstone Specials”, however they have performed many times at the hotel for private clients. They are a great party band, a traditional “swing” band and a perfect dance band all rolled into one. Todd himself and two lovely ladies provide a first class front line backed by twelve vastly experienced musicians. We plan this to be a “Spring Ball” with black tie the order of the day.
Tank Sherman, a local comedian, will entertain whilst the band have their “cup of tea”.

60th Anniversary
Weekend No. 3
...

Fri 1st June - Sun 3rd June 2007

Friday 1st – Dancing to Zodiac our long-serving (suffering?) five piece band with guest star Ginger Walker

Ginger and his band used to provide regular entertainment for our guests way back in the seventies (he was the backing band for our first Kenny Ball evening) but then they got too old!

Zodiac (formerly “The Silvertones”) – who have been here since just after Nelson lost his eye – will be familiar to you all and certainly need no introductions.

Saturday 2nd June – That’ll Be The Day

Yes The “That’ll be the Day” – absolutely everyone’s favourite cabaret show. They have appeared at the hotel no less than 25 times and we like to claim that they “cut their teeth” on the diminutive Washington Stage. Now they have gone on to greater heights than the Langstone Cliff Hotel, touring theatres nationwide and having appeared many times at the world famous London Palladium. But for our 60th Anniversary Celebrations we have tempted them back – with money of course!

Weekend No. 4

Fri 2nd Nov - Sun 4th Nov 2007

Saturday 3rd November – MAGIC – A kind of Queen

Personally I was never a great fan of Freddie Mercury and Queen, certainly I enjoyed one of two of their biggest hits but never “went overboard”. Magic have changed all that – the enthusiasm with which they present the music is tremendous. It is loud at times, raw with emotion at others - but always exciting. Magic have appeared at the hotel on ten occasions – and never to less than a full house – bet your life that isn’t going to change!
